My Background and Approach

I have a BS from Ohio University and a Masters from Lewis and Clark College. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor. I've been working in the field for 19 years. In addition to clinical practice, I was a Clinical Supervisor for two of those years before serving as the Clinical Director for Kaiser Permanente's Department of Addiction Medicine for another 5 years. I have training and experience in the following areas: Brainspotting and Somatic Experiencing, mindfulness/meditation, men's issues/identity/patriarchy, high performers/leadership/work-life balance, voice dialogue/inner critic, DBT, CBT, alcohol and drug abuse counseling (traditional abstinence/harm reduction), motivational interviewing, monogamy/ENM/polyamory, and the couples work of Terry Real (RLT) and Esther Perel.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I believe that a rich and rewarding life can be achieved, and that a holistic approach that acknowledges mind, body, and spirit is essential to the overall change process. Unresolved trauma and our habitual patterns can be acknowledged and understood, while also recognizing the pain that they may be causing for ourselves, or perhaps in our significant relationships. Our distress may feel insurmountable, but what do we do with it? What is within our control to change and where to begin? How do we decrease feelings of isolation and find connection to others? While not always easy, therapy is an opportunity to identify and work with these challenged parts of the self. I work with individuals and couples to address the barriers that stand in the way of authentic connection and vibrancy.
