About My Clients
I focus mainly on Women's Mental Health, immigration & acculturation, and tough life transitions. Most of my clients are cisgender women, but I welcome individuals of any sex/gender identities and backgrounds. If you're struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, self-doubt, body image concerns, intimacy challenges, or the weight of systemic pressures—or if you feel fear, anxiety, or desperation about current politics and climate change—I’m here to help you reclaim your power and authenticity.
My Background and Approach
I was born and raised in Germany and immigrated to the US as an adult, so I know what it’s like to acculturate to both the US and the Midwest. As a mother (to both living children and angel babies), I’ve spent years working in homeless services, substance use treatment, harm reduction, and outreach for sex workers, both in Germany and the US. With an MA in Social Sciences, an MS in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, and advanced training in perinatal counseling, I help clients understand how societal norms shape mental health, and I’ve witnessed the incredible resilience people show in the face of life’s challenges. My approach is holistic and client-centered, blending liberation psychology, existentialist psychology, narrative therapy, strength-based methods, and CBT. I work with clients to find what works best for them. My style is warm and authentic—I believe in humor and being real, even if that means dropping a few swear words along the way.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe diversity is a beautiful, normal, and natural part of life on earth. People can live together, learn from each other, and thrive without harmful cultural hierarchies. I believe in social, environmental, and economic justice. I am an anti-fascist, anti-authoritarian, anti-colonialist, feminist, and a supporter of LGBTQ+ rights. As a white, cisgender, straight, middle-class woman, I acknowledge my privilege and use it to support meaningful change. In my counseling practice, I believe psychological change starts with understanding the social norms that shape us, recognizing how they either oppress or benefit us, and clarifying what truly matters to us. I help clients become aware of their triggers, recognize their reactions, and learn new skills to align their responses with their values. I believe all behaviors are learned and can be unlearned or reshaped. My clients are the experts on their lives, and my role is to guide and support their healing process.
