About My Clients
Many of us struggle to find, or be happy, in our personal relationships. And it can feel like a mystery as to why it is so difficult to feel seen and understood by a partner. Some of us may feel we give too much energy to our relationships, while some of us feel reticent to engage at more intimate levels. I work with clients to pinpoint the personal struggles and self-beliefs that are impeding the ability to feel comfortable and energized in relationship.
My Background and Approach
I specialize in: childhood and intergenerational trauma; attachment issues that make finding and staying in healthy relationships difficult; codependent and avoidant relating patterns; perfectionism; career changes; ambiguous loss and grief; adult children of mentally challenged parents; parenting; and pregnancy & postpartum issues. With care, skill, playfulness and heartfelt attention I bring a new perspective to your specific situation. As a therapist I get interested with you about how to respond to your inner conversations, and outer world interactions, in ways that create more equanimity, love and happiness in your life, instead of creating more stress. Buddhist psychology, depth psychology, dream imagery, trauma-informed sensorimotor psychotherapy, and parts work are the main modalities I use with clients. To regulate the nervous system I use evidence-based practical tools including breathwork, meditation, and somatic psychotherapy practices.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I contributed to, and edited, the book Advances in Contemplative Psychotherapy published by Routledge in 2023. You can learn more about the book at www.contemplativebook.com. I also contributed the chapter, Mindfulness: Self-healing Mechanism and Psychotherapeutic Ally to the forthcoming book, Integrating Motivational Interviewing and Mindfulness: A Practitioner Guide to be published in 2024 by Oxford University Press. As a graduate of the Masters program in Counseling Psychology from the Pacifica Graduate Institute, my research focused on the meditative practice of Authentic Movement and the use of symbols and dream imagery in psychotherapy.
