About My Clients
I work closely with clients who wish to reduce feelings of distress, improve their relationships, and feel empowered to problem solve. I see people as part of their ‘systems’; their history, family, culture, beliefs, current relationships and jobs…it’s an ecology, so any changes can improve the whole. I also enjoy working with families with members of all ages to increase communication and feelings of safety and acceptance through an attachment based, emotionally focused lens.
My Background and Approach
I believe that therapy is a relational process where we work toward helping you find self-compassion, growth, and healing. I am trained in a systems approach, meaning that I look at the individuals, couples, and families I work with as being part of a meaningful web of connection with others in their lives. I believe that our histories are important to our emotional work in the here and now, and that it is empowering to explore what we value to help create a roadmap to a more purposeful and wholehearted life. I work mainly from an attachment lens, using emotion-focused and experiential approaches. My style is warm, non-judgmental, and engaged. I may bring in mindfulness practices in our work together to learn feelings of safety, process feelings and events, and ease the impact that stress and trauma has on the body.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I take a holistic perspective, considering the multiple facets of each person and their experiences, and view each of my clients as social and political beings whose health is impacted daily by the systems in which they live and interact. I recognize that systems of oppression affect us each differently and in specific ways. I also realize that they create privilege for some while making healthcare that much harder to access for others. I welcome people of all cultures, races, sizes, abilities, religions, sexual orientations, and gender identities in my counseling practice, and I seek to create a safe space that is tailored to my clients’ individual needs.
