About My Clients
MW Counseling is for those who are tired of feeling like their therapist is not listening to them and are getting cookie-cutter homework assignments. My top specialties include anxiety, self-esteem issues, and relationship issues. I also work with clients from a faith-based approach as well. If you want to have an actual conversation with a counselor who views clients in a nonjudgmental way, schedule with MW Counseling.
My Background and Approach
I base my sessions off the three core conditions of Person-Centered Therapy: empathy, congruence (or genuineness), and unconditional positive regard (or nonjudgmental). By actively listening to the client, they are able to discover how they are able to achieve their personal growth (also known as their actualizing tendency). Using anxiety as an example, I will ask the client what they think causes them anxiety. By actively listening and reflecting back the client's remarks, they will be able to have a deeper processing of their feelings, identify what they want to change, and begin taking steps to reaching personal growth of reducing their anxiety. If some clients need something more, I will implement Cognitive-Behavioral techniques, mindfulness based activities, or solution-focused strategies if clients are looking for something more direct.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that talking about something can truly have a profound impact on a person. Society, today, is very focused on providing an "expert" analysis to a situation using all the latest research or overly prescribing medications. To me, some people just simply need someone to talk to. I, personally, have found just having a conversation with someone can be enough to validate my feelings or to simply increase my mood. At the end of the day, if a person has a conversation that has really helped them, they are going to remember the person or the conversation they had that helped them through the difficult time, not the latest research technique that was administered.
