Together we will explore early life experiences to understand more about how you came to be who you are today. The way we attach, or do not attach, to our primary caregivers as a child has a huge impact on our adult relationships. We will identify your personal attachment style, and examine how this plays out in your past and current relationships. We can work together to assist you in developing a healthier attachment style to improve your relationships, and feel more secure in them.

In DBT therapy, you will be taught skills to enhance your abilities in the following areas: -Mindfulness: The practice of being fully aware and present in the moment​ (to slow down racing thoughts) -Distress Tolerance: How to tolerate painful or difficult situations, when we cannot change it​ -Interpersonal Effectiveness: How to ask for what you want and say no while maintaining self-respect and relationships with others​ -Emotion Regulation: How to appropriately control or change emotions

As it sounds, person-centered therapy is focused on the client, their experience and their comfortability. This is a non-directive approach that prioritizes the qualities of genuineness, honesty, empathy and non-judgement within the client-therapist relationship. I will take the time to understand you as an individual and learn how you view the world. This is important to build the relationship in therapy, because everyone deserves to be seen, understood and appreciated just as they are.

When was the last time you thought about what you deserve in a relationship, as well as what you have to offer someone else? Many of us do not have a clear picture of this, and may end up in relationships that are not ideal for us as a result. We will work together to define these things, identify characteristics of healthy and unhealthy relationships, as well as build your confidence to be in the type of relationship you really want.

Just because you are blood-related to someone, it does not give them a right to treat you poorly. We will explore family dynamics and relationships, and work to understand and change unhealthy communication patterns. We will work to build the confidence and skills you need to address these conflicts and feel more satisfied within your relationships.
