About My Clients

You may have been dealing with anxious or distressing thoughts and feelings for a while now, but are finally noticing that they are unmanageable. This may look like loops in your thoughts and feelings, reliving past trauma, broken relationships, or feeling like your needs are never met. Rather than participating in life, it may feel like you’re just going through the motions. I work best with folks who are motivated to change but who feel unsure how to start that process.

My Background and Approach

I approach all of my clients from a stance of openness and curiosity. During sessions, I use a combination of honest communication and metaphors. My approach is collaborative and I welcome feedback throughout the counseling process to make sure we are on the same page. As a SAFE trained EMDR therapist, I offer an evidence-based approach to help people become unstuck from past trauma and attachment injuries. For many people, EMDR provides a way to move through past trauma and to start living a life consistent with the person they want to be. I am also trained in ACT, which informs my belief that experiencing uncomfortable emotions and thoughts is a normal part of being human. Using this approach, I work with my clients to start embracing these experiences, rather than avoiding them. Each person has a different idea of what it means to live a life fulfilled, and therefore I work with my clients to identify the values that are most important to them to guide our work together.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

While I don't subscribe to the belief that "everybody needs a therapist", I do believe a lot of people could benefit from therapy at various parts of their life. Feeling sad and worried are as much a part of being human as feeling content or happy, and sometimes our difficult emotions can be a way for us to identify what is most important to us. I believe that people can find purpose and hope even after the most difficult of situations. The forest is able to regrow after a wildfire. Continued learning is one of my biggest values, and I am often between a book (or two) and trainings, about topics both within the field and out of it. As a fellow human, I try to use the practices that I use with my clients.
