My clients say that I am a good listener, I give good resources, and I bring things to light about themselves for personal growth.
My Background and Approach
I started out working with Willie M children back in 1996, I joined the Marines in 1998, while working for the Marines I picked up two part time jobs working troubled teens. When I was discharged from the Marine Corps after 5 years of honorable service I worked for a Group Home and was the Program Manager. These children had severe behavior problems but I always believed it wasn't their fault as it was the environment that they were raised in. I went to work for a drug and alcohol agency and was there for three years at which time I realized I needed to get my Masters Degree so we moved to Florida and I worked full time as a Family Services Counselor until school started. Once I graduated with my MSW I worked for a Mental Health Treatment Facility for two years providing counseling to clients in poverty and moved over to Drug Court. We moved to Oklahoma for my wife's job and worked with the DoD providing anger groups to Soldiers. Currently I work for the Department of Veterans Affairs.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe in the good in people and believe that people can change and they want a better life for themselves and for their family however at times we just don’t know how to help ourselves to get to our goals and we need some help. I believe that we have a tendency to keep our blinders on our eyes because we don’t want to see the real hurt in the world. We have to acknowledge what we have done to cause that hurt in ourselves and/or someone else. I also believe that we need to be nudged at times to change and once we’re made aware of the changes that need to be made then its up to the individual to make the changes. At times we might need some medications to control our emotions until we can learn the coping skills to help us control our emotions. I believe that we all need some help along the way and that anyone that walks across our path might have something to show us, teach us, or offer us to help make our lives easier but we need to be to be open to what is being offered.
