About My Clients
My clients are often struggling to find peace in their relationships to themselves, others, their bodies, or food. They are often motivated to find healing but unsure of where to start. Whether they are an individual or a couple, they usually want to be an active participant in therapy and have a witness to their story. I believe my clients are already holding the tools they need to work towards a more harmonious life.
My Background and Approach
I have a background in eating disorder and body image work, attachment-focused family work, traditional and non-traditional couples work, and narrative therapy. I am client-focused, which means that while I may have a background in mental health, I believe you are the expert on yourself. Your cultural, ethnic, religious, racial, gender, and sexual identities are important and always relevant to our work. I am often curious about your family of origin, your relationships, and what makes you feel connected and grounded. I will often ask you to check in with your body and physical sensations as a way to better understand your emotions. Depending on what you are needing or searching for, we might incorporate some CBT, DBT or psychoanalytic techniques. I offer art therapy interventions for those who are interested as well. My hope is to work with you to find ways to have more self-compassion and to feel more embodied.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that all humans hold the keys to their healing and that relational therapy can help one find and utilize those tools. I believe there are many Western cultural ideals and forces that are harmful to all of us, and that we are capable of unlearning and pushing back against those norms that don't fit for us. I believe that building relationships with clients as a therapist is an honor and I feel privileged to get to walk alongside so many incredible humans.
