About My Clients
I don't really have a particular population I focus on. I want to work with everybody! That said, I have a great deal of experience with adults with persistent and severe mental illness, adolescents with oppositional and defiant behavior, and clients seeking help from their local psychiatrist. I start every session with "Tell me what's going on with you. What can I do to help?" Then we go from there. I end every session with "Was that helpful?" I haven't heard "No" yet.
My Background and Approach
I'm a cognitive behavioral therapist. That means that I help you to use your thoughts and behaviors to help you reduce the impact that your unwelcome or overwhelming feelings have on your life. I got my Masters degree in 1999. I got my license to practice in Georgia in 2005. But I've been in the helping profession since I first started working on the psychiatric unit of Mobile Infirmary in 1990. I've worked with children, adults, families in crisis, and people in hospitals. I've worked in the community, in schools, in homes, and in correctional settings. I've worked with people from almost every walk of life and level of severity. Give me the opportunity to hear your story and I'm almost certain I can help you and yours start down the path towards better. I have been told that I'm insightful, effective, and easy to talk to. I'm clear and to the point, while also being respectful. It's my intent to give you practical advice that you can turn into meaningful change.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
