About My Clients
I work with adults who have experienced trauma, anxiety, mood disorders, life transitions, relationship stressors, grief, and loss, among other challenges, in a geek and LGBTQ+-friendly environment. Our work together focuses on you- where you are, your goals, and where you want the direction of your story to go. Part of the work is answering the questions that establish the goals and direction, and I look forward to exploring this with you where you are.
My Background and Approach
In meeting with you where you are in your journey, I will help you develop your own set of skills to help you through your daily experiences. I also encourage approaching challenges with vulnerability and self-compassion and will assist in practicing these areas in our sessions. Since our past experiences impact our current story and how we engage with our world, part of our work involves making these connections with a whole-person approach, identifying the impact of relationships with others, systemic oppression, harmful messaging, and other barriers that promote the shame and guilt that can paralyze us in our growth. I have a certificate in complex trauma and dissociation from the International Society for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation and am a certified geek therapist through Geek Therapeutics. My approach is eclectic and trauma-informed, including but not limited to the use of EMDR, Mindfulness, CBT, DBT, and solution-focused interventions.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that personal growth and transformation are vital to the human experience. Even though painful experiences are inevitable, suffering does not have to hold us back from living satisfying and fulfilling lives. Most individuals do their best to survive a chaotic and challenging world, and reducing our suffering and that of others can help. Further, I believe in working to dismantle the oppressive, systemic barriers that promote harm when possible. Acknowledging these barriers allows us to create a realistic treatment plan and mindset toward healing. Creativity and storytelling are also vital to healing, and I love incorporating this through Geek Therapy. As a geek who loves video games, Star Wars, and many other elements of geek culture, I have seen and experienced how psychology and the human condition are told through these stories. We can use these stories to relate and identify with elements in our journey and further understand ourselves and the world around us.
