About My Clients
I will always challenge my clients to become comfortable with the uncomfortable when working with me. Intakes can be very difficult as they call for recollection of things that just don't feel good or are alarming to the nervous system. I always introduce a skill beforehand that can be utilized at any time for grounding to work through difficult moments. I always assign homework. I utilize multiple ways to measure progress toward goals that we establish.
My Background and Approach
I have practiced in community, school-based, healthcare, and private practice settings, working with children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families. I normally use an integrative approach and am trained in various modalities; I am certified in grief counseling and eating disorders, and I am working toward EMDR certification. As a licensed provider, I am constantly seeking knowledge and ways to hone my skills to meet my clients where they are. I participate in various continuing education training and courses to do this. I am passionate about providing ethical, culturally competent, and trauma-informed services to individuals, couples, and families.
Why I Became a Therapist
I come from humble beginnings that allow me to hold a space for my clients that is free of judgment and filled with unconditional positive regard. As a former foster youth for all my childhood and adolescent life, therapy is what kept me grounded. My circumstances taught me that I needed tools to better cope with the reality of what life was throwing my way. I was fortunate that therapy became that constant in my life that allowed me to process, reflect, learn, heal, and finally grow.
