About My Clients
I have the passion and absolute privilege to walk alongside people as they discover more about themselves. I work best with adolescent girls and adult women of all presentations navigating gender constructs, oppression, depression, anxiety, traumatic events, grief, relationship issues, deconstructing old belief systems, and more.
My Background and Approach
I am a Resident in Counseling in VA and also a Board-Certified Music Therapist. I offer both traditional talk therapy and music therapy, incorporating both modalities when appropriate. What is Music Therapy? In short, music therapy is the use of musical activities to achieve your goals in therapy. (Welcome Video forthcoming will explain more)! During assessment, we will work together to determine if Music Therapy might work for you. If not, no worries! We can go the traditional route. In my therapeutic approach, I am eclectic, meaning I draw from different counseling theories as needed. These include person-centered, attachment theory, holistic, existential-humanistic, social justice, and feminist. Therapeutic approaches include Vocal Psychotherapy, Expressive Arts, Guided Imagery and Music (GIM), Mindfulness, Emotion Focused, Narrative, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Cognitive Behavioral (CBT), Dialectic Behavioral (DBT), and Acceptance and Commitment (ACT).
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe you are the expert of your own life. I believe in the power of human potential and discovering your purpose in life to energize and inspire you. I believe in the energetic power of music to reveal and heal. I believe power, privilege, and oppressive structures impact us every day. I believe in equity, open-mindedness, healthy boundaries, and self-love. I believe we thrive best in connection to others when we are in connection with ourselves.
