About My Clients
Do your experiences, relationships, sexual orientation or gender identity make the search for a mental health professional difficult? Are there times or situations where you'd like a helping hand, but feel overwhelmed explaining your background to someone who may not understand? I know what that feels like. My passion lies in helping survivors of trauma and I am deeply invested in serving LGBTQIA+, polyam, consensual non-monogamy (ENM), Kink, sex workers, and all sexual minority communities.
My Background and Approach
I have a MS in counseling and development from Texas Woman's University and am currently working on my PhD in marriage and family therapy. I believe counseling is a collaborative effort between clinician and client. My methods center on a CBT-based approach to reaching personal goals, processing depression and anxiety, with a special focus on establishing and maintaining boundaries. I am working on my level one Gottman certification and my American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors, and Therapists (AASECT) certification in sex therapy. Reach out to me if you're ready to start making improvements in your well-being in a safe, non-judgmental space. I operate from the idea that there is nothing wrong with you, but rather that you are responding to your environment. The point of therapy is to help you reorganize and better understand those responses and make them more effective.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe advocacy is an important aspect of mental health counseling and work diligently to provide education to sexual minority communities and educate others to reduce stigma of normative sexual behaviors. I actively present with several local BDSM/kink groups, provide consultation on consent and mental health to local polyam (ENM/CNM) groups, and provide education to the LGBTQIA+/SAGA community. As an active member of many of the sexual minority communities I serve I have an intimate understanding of the dynamics and needs of individuals from those backgrounds. I use a trauma focused lens and am extremely sex positive and sex work allied. Sex is an important aspect of our overall mental health and you never need to be afraid of discussing sexual issues. I have been active in animal rescue for over a decade and have seen first hand the difference therapy animals make in a client's mental health. Also, when offering face-to-face sessions, I provide animal assisted therapy.
