About My Clients
I work with lots of high achievers in high stress fields, who seem to the outside world like they have it all together, but come to therapy feeling like they are falling apart inside. Therapy is so useful for exploring where these ideas came from, learning to set boundaries around work and achievement, and treating ourselves with more compassion. I also have experience with working with nonmonogamous relationships and ADHD/neurodivergent clients in a non-pathologizing, supportive atmosphere.
My Background and Approach
Before becoming a therapist, I was a hairstylist for 15 years. I learned how interested I was in people's lives, and how honored I felt to be the audience for their stories. As a therapist, I still believe our relationship matters most in how comfortable clients feel opening up.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
As someone who became aware of my bisexuality and neurodivergence in my 30's, I know how much societal conditioning and heteronormativity can influence and confuse us. It's important to me to be non-pathologizing about uncommon relationship structures or sexual preferences. I believe in being culturally humble and learning as much as I can about a client's culture that is different from mine, while not being afraid to acknowledge what I don't know in general. I believe that patriarchy has not only hurt women and non-binary folks, but also men, and everyone should be free to be their truest self, free from gendered pressures or hierarchy. I believe that (especially white) therapists have a responsibility to do their own ongoing personal work around anti-racism as well as internalized misogyny, fatphobia, and ageism.
